Poetry is the tongue of God, the language of scriptures, the lingo of religions, the lyrics of folklore, and the lexis of mankind.
Poetry is the spirit of man, the soul of his passion, the embodiment of his aspirations, the fulfillment of his pleasures, measured and treasured by the length, width and depth of his intellect and instincts.
The common denominator of poetry is love in all its forms. Since love is a medium of reconciliation and kindness between people, poetry is a medium solely recognizable through its effects on the human spirit and intellect. Poetry creates ambiances of immeasurable magnitude and issues challenges of immortal dimensions.
Poetry is synonymous to the Latin word “versus”, from which we got the word verse. In this sense, poetry’s lines are like a Bible verse, for you to admire its composition, and expectedly to heed its contents. One pours blessings from the fountainhead of love and life, while others rain acid from the wellspring of hate and death over an unjust and ungrateful world.
The importance of poetry lies in its paramount influence on people. I believe translations of universal poetry into other languages took precedent to those of prose. Poetry, although less understood by many, is always a perennial seller. Poetry is the source of speakers’ quotes, and the foundation of hymns and songs, and the reference book of love.
The distance between good and evil is so definably narrow, it is represented by the North and South Poles, not the East and West Equator. As an effective medium, poetry promotes peace, reconciliation, serenity, harmony, justice and freedom, by instilling love, rapprochement and détente, and enticing people to unite spiritually, emotionally and intellectually.
Poetry represents an integral part of our every day life: we may read or recite it, we may encounter it quoted as a citation or proverb within a text, or we may help ourselves with its sayings and maxims to drive up a point.
Poetry is that cup of coffee and glass of wine, that pervade our spirits and souls, to enchant our body and to enhance our intellect.
